Trishul Mallikarjuna hails from the state of Karnataka in India. He graduated with a B.Engg. in ECE from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE), Mysore, affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belgaum. He worked as an audio firmware engineer at Broadcom Corporation, specializing in bringing up integrated decoders for commercial audio formats on real-time embedded digital signal processors, before pursuing his MS in Music Technology at Georgia Tech.
His graduate work involved programming the marimba-playing robot Shimon to improvise musically, analyzing 3D motion capture data to investigate the effect of visual cues on music, musical information retrieval from visual as well as audio sources, and developing predictive models of musical melody, resulting in several peer-reviewed publications. His MS thesis, titled "Towards expressive melodic accompaniment using parametric modeling of continuous expressive elements of music in a multi-attribute trie framework", focused on modeling and synthesizing expressive vocal gestures.
He plays electronic drums, and has electronically arranged music for several music groups in India. He also shares interest in digital visual arts and media, photography, social dancing, adventure sports, traveling, occasional poetry and regular geek-ism.
