Currently a PhD student at the Music Technology Group UPF Barcelona
Pursuing his ideals by working in music technology field, Sertan Şentürk received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a specialty in control engineering from the Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2009 and he has also completed a four-year, part-time classical guitar program at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, Ankara, Turkey, in 2009. He obtained his MSc. degree in Music Technology at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011. During his studies he also worked as a graduate research assistant in Music Intelligence Group, supervised by Parag Chordia. In his research he was primarily involved with raag recognition, expressive tabla modeling and computational modeling of improvisation in Turkish music.
Currently, he is pursuing his PhD. in Music Technology Group in Universitat Pompeu Fabra under the advisorship of Xavier Serra. He is a member of the CompMusic Project, a project which aims to understand world musics via computational research. His research interests include music information retrieval, digital audio processing, machine learning, and music cognition with an emphasis on world music.
Sertan plays classical guitar and computer, and he is learning to play the bağlama, a traditional Turkish stringed instrument. Being a politically oriented person, he is interested in learning about untaught history and understanding different point of views. He enjoys traveling, skiing, and swimming.
