Akito Van Troyer

Currently a graduate student at MIT Media Lab

Akito Van Troyer’s research interests range from interactive music system, music information retrieval, cybernetics, ethnomusicology, error structures in digital system, to computer programmed music, with audiovisual modules for real time sound visualization. Reflecting on these studies has led him to see the music technology, especially as issues of cultural and social revolution of how we participate in music, as a highly important area of inquiry.

In the music technology program at Georgia Institute of Technology, Akito strongly desires to study and develop a wider view of music technology, that is, first to explore the algorithm and data structure for music and sound making, and second to examine a successful musical interface for interactive music production. He would concentrate on merging the two areas of study to develop a new and interestingly unusual musical system from a technological and scientific perspective.

Akito is currently involved in a project “Graph Theory” with Jason Freeman. As a part of research project he is also working on audiovisual interactive granular synthesis project.
